Dr. Coleman has been the recipient of several awards that are a testament to his excellence in dental care, including the Walter G. Sterling Award for academic excellence at the University of Texas Health Center of Houston, the A.O. Beck Award for outstanding prosthodontics, and the Professional Award from the American College of Dentists.

When Dr. Coleman is not treating patients, he leads a very active lifestyle. He is a staff consultant at Alley Theatre and a partner in Big Nuts Tree Farm. In addition, he is a deacon at the Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. He earned his Eagle Scout rank in 1972 and is currently the committee chairman for Troop 13 Boy Scouts of America. Additionally, Dr. Coleman serves on the board of directors for the Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the largest Boy Scout Council in America. Dr. Coleman is an avid upland bird hunter, a licensed pilot and scuba diver, and is a 3rd degree black belt in Hapkido and a 1st degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do
