Case Description
I have an extremely bad toothache x 1 day and this morning started having a earache with spasms. The painful tooth has a filling in it from many years ago. Right ear on same side of mouth as toothache. Ear spasms of pain intermittenly and when drinking cold fluids. Somewhat better with earplug in that ear. Earlier today - started myself on Amoxicillin 500mg twice a day. I need an appointment with a Dentist on Monday in my area.

Cost Estimate: $? It depends on insurance and exactly what type of treatment you nee.
It sounds like you need an exam to determine exactly what you need. Sometimes, when a tooth is infected, there will pain associated with that infection. As the infection spreads, there can be "referred pain". All that means is that pain caused by one area of the body can be felt in another area of the body. This could be what is causing your earache. First of all, the tooth never is involved. The dental diagnosis is irreversible pulpitis and the treatment of choice is root canal therapy. Your drug of choice should be clindamycin 300mg, one tab every six hours until all gone, effective after 24 hours. I guess I may be too late in replying this message but I just want to help. The tooth probably will need a crown after ward.
