Case Description
My four year just had her first dentist visit and has requires 3 pulpotomies, 5 "pre fab stainless steel", 1 "pre fab esthetic stainles steel", and 3 sealants. The estimated cost quoted to me is about $2800 including analgesia. I don't know if these prices are typical. I can't afford this amount. Does anyone preform these for less that the amount quoted? We live in Houston Tx.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Cost Estimate: $1000.00 max.
Sometimes I personally question the use of stainless steel crown(SSC) in children. Many times the SSC was used just because it saves time. A well placed filling on a child will last as long as the crown does, and it cost 1/5 a cost of SSC. In fact, an SSC is a prefab, therefore the margin is horrible, leading to possible gum abscess, gingivitis, bad breath, etc... A filling is much more hygienic and much more conservative. Even with all that you quote, the price is way too high. However, we cannot dispute price since that is an individual belief. But seeing a child having a persistent problems just because his or her parents cannot afford a treatment is painful and insensitive. Please contact my office at St. Nicholas Dental (if you are in Houston) at 713-263-8080 or Cosmetic Dentist of Katy at 281-579-6066 (if you live in Katy or close to Katy). You will pay at most is 1000.00 and we guarantee our works. Hope we can help you. In Katy we have air abrasion and laser that may eliminate the need to give shot. We also perform IV sedation and use the dental wand (computerized injection system) which is pretty much pain free injection.
