Case Description
I just had a Bridge put in on the upper right side and the pain has been excruiciating. I informed the dentist who filed down the teeth in preparation for the new bridge that I was experiencing intense pain and cold sensitivity from the the moment it was finished through the temporary bridge and also once the permanent bridge was put in. I am still experiencing intense pain where the new bridge is including the front teeth as well as the bottom teeth as well as my left ear and up into the left side of my head. I have been taking Motrin 800 since 12/3/07 and now the Dentist wants to do a root canal through the new bridge! I told the dentist of the situation but they insisted that the pain would go away after the permanent bridge was inserted but it's only gotten worse and now I'm very leary about letting this dentist do any more work on my teeth but I need to remedy this very painfull situation. Thank you, Greg

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Hi, I am sorry that you have to go through so much.Let''''s start from the beginning. If you have pain and sensitivity sensation when you are wearing temps, two things may have happened: 1) the temp is not done well and the margin was leaking causing sensitivity. Usually the sensitivity should be slight but not intense. If it does, then the preparation may encroached near the nerve causing undesired reaction. The correct decision should be waiting for the pain and sensitivity going away before cement the final bridge. If after 3 to 4 weeks and the pain is not going away, the tooth required the root canal; 2) the second scenario is also very common. The occlusion on the temp and the final bridge was incorrect. Occlusion is how the top teeth fit into the bottom teeth during functioning or swallowing. If the occlusion is bad, you will experience strong sensitivity, excruciating pain, headache, and the nerve will die shortly. Many times if caught early, the occlusion can be fixed and the symptom will subside with no damage done. In your situation, the final bridge should NOT be cemented immediately but rather the dentist should wait. The solution is now the tooth needed the root canal. I think the dentist should performed the root canal and there may be a charge for it (sometimes, rarely but does happened) a tooth can die due to the bridge preparation). However, I think the bridge should be redone with no charge since no one wants a brand new bridge with a hole.
